The workplace is an ideal environment for addressing health issues and promoting healthy habits that can have significant benefits for workers and to business, including reduced risk of chronic disease and workplace injury, and increased productivity.
WorkSafe has pioneered a focus on worker health and wellbeing as part of achieving great health and safety at work. The world-first WorkHealth program was instrumental in raising awareness and appreciation of health at work, the linkages between personal health and safety performance, and encouraging Victorian workplaces to actively support the health and wellbeing workers through a mixture of workplace-based activities.
The five-year WorkHealth program concluded on 31 December 2013, having empowered over a quarter of the working population with critical information about the state of their health and their risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular (heart) disease. Across this site detailed information can be found about the WorkHealth program, research and health statistics that can assist you in planning your health and wellbeing offer.
WorkSafe is actively supporting the Department of Health’s Healthy Together Victoria program which supports Victorians to make healthy choices where they live, learn, work and play. Find more information visit Healthy Together Victoria
WorkSafe continues to value workplace health promotion as an important part of making Victorian workplaces safer. We are currently working on new ways to assist Victorian businesses to support and promote health and wellbeing for the benefit of workers, workplaces and the broader community.
Across Victoria, there are plenty of great free resources available to support you in building on the work you started through WorkHealth, including our online healthy workplace kit for steps you can take to improve the health and wellbeing of your people and business.
