A risk assessment builds knowledge and understanding about hazards and risks that have been identified so that informed decisions can be taken about controlling them.

Risk assessment involves:

  • determining what levels of harm can occur.
  • determining how harm can occur.
  • determining the likelihood that harm will occur.
