The accused is a licensed asbestos removalist. In March 2013 he carried out asbestos removal works at a residential property. The following day the home-owner received an Asbestos Inspection and Clearance Certificate, purportedly signed by an independent assessor. The home-owner rang the assessor, who advised that he had never carried out an inspection at that address. When the home-owner then rang the accused, the accused maintained that the assessor had conducted the inspection.
On 9 April 2014, the accused pleaded guilty to two charges under s 153 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004. Gregory Theodos was without conviction fined $2,000 and ordered him to pay costs in the sum of $1,000.
