WorkSafe licence types and fees

The law requires you to have a licence before performing certain types of work.

Licences are issued by WorkSafe under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and the Dangerous Goods Act 1985 and their subordinate regulations.

Each licence has different application requirements and fees. Fees are also charged under the OHS Regulations and the Equipment (Public Safety) Regulations 2017 (EPS Regulations) for other types of applications, including fees to apply for registration of a plant design or give notice of a prescribed equipment design.

You can view the fees of all WorkSafe licences in the tables below. To find out more information and the requirements for each licence or fee type, click on the licence you want to apply for, or renew, from the list below.

To check on the progress of an application call the Licensing Branch on 1300 852 562 or email licensing@worksafe.vic.gov.au.

When you receive a licence you must comply with any terms and conditions imposed on it. WorkSafe may suspend or cancel a licence if the activities relating to it are not being carried out safely and competently.

Fee units

The OHS Regulations and EPS Regulations provide for fees by reference to fee units.

Fee unit is defined in the Monetary Units Act 2004. They are used to calculate certain statutory fees. The dollar amount of a fee unit is fixed for each financial year. A fee is calculated by multiplying the fee units prescribed in the Regulations by the current value of a fee unit. The amount of the calculated fee may be rounded to the nearest 10 cents.

The current value of a fee unit for the 2016/2017 financial year is $13.94. The value of a fee unit for the 2017/2018 financial year is $14.22.
