About the registration/notification 

Design of high risk plant must be registered with WorkSafe prior to use in the workplace.
Types of plant that must be registered are:

  • pressure equipment (pressure vessels and boilers) categorised as hazard Level A, B, C, D
  • tower crane
  • self erecting tower crane
  • lift/escalator/moving walk
  • building maintenance unit
  • hoist with platform movement in excess of 2.4 metres and designed to lift people
  • suspended work box
  • amusement structures (other than Class 1)
  • prefabricated scaffolding
  • boom-type elevating work platform
  • bridge crane/gantry crane
  • vehicle hoist
  • mast climbing platform
  • mobile crane with a SWL greater than 10 tonne



Regsistration/notification is valid for the lifetime of the plant unless design alterations are made, then a Registration/notification of altered plant design form should be completed and submitted to WorkSafe.

Complete the form and provide:

  • relevant design drawings of the plant
  • signatures from the design notifier, designer and the design verifier
  • reference to the design standards used to design the item of plant
