12 Ways to Make Small Businesses Safer
Overloaded and/or damaged storage racking and shelving can collapse, causing serious injuries to employees. Employees can also be injured if they are struck by objects falling off shelving.
- Maintain racking systems in good condition. Repair or replace damaged shelves and racks.
- Display the manufacturer's specified safe working load (SWL) on racking and shelving. Know the weight limit for mezzanine floors if they are used for storage.
- Make sure the total weight is even and stable, and doesn't exceed the specified SWL.
- Provide safe access to and in storage areas.
