Victoria's farming industry is diverse, producing a wide variety of plant and animal products. There are around 35,000 farms in Victoria and together they use 60 per cent of Victoria's land. These farms range in size from small hobby farms to large corporate farms.
Farms are amongst the most dangerous workplaces in Victoria. The work can involve using heavy machinery and equipment, at times working alone, and sometimes for long hours.
The incorrect use (due to lack of training), and poor maintenance of vehicles and machinery lies at the heart of many farming injuries and fatalities.
There is also a risk to others on the property, such as visitors, including children.
