Getting Assistance - Occupational Rehabilitation

After being injured at work, your WorkSafe Agent may approve the services of an occupational rehabilitation provider who can help you return to work with:

  • your injury employer, or
  • a new employer

Occupational rehabilitation providers are independent of WorkSafe and your employer. Providers are experienced in dealing with workplace injuries and helping people back to work.

Return to work with your injury employer

An independent occupational rehabilitation provider will:

  • visit your workplace to review your normal duties
  • meet with your treating health practitioner to help identify and get support for suitable duties
  • assist you and your employer to plan and set goals to help you return to safe work.

Return to work with a new employer

An independent occupational rehabilitation provider will:

  • review your skills, qualifications and experience to help you find a new job
  • meet with your treating health practitioner to get their support for the identified jobs
  • assist you to find suitable jobs through the WorkSafe Incentive Scheme for Employers carry out a workplace assessment if you are offered a job so you will know that you can safely perform the new job requirements.

If your WorkSafe Agent  approves occupational rehabilitation services to help you return to work, they will offer you the choice of at least three WorkSafe approved providers (where available).  You will have 14 days to make a decision about which one to use.
