In Victoria's child care centres and kindergartens, 'safety' often focuses on the needs of children. But these centres are also workplaces which must meet OHS laws to keep workers safe.
Every year, more than 200 workers are seriously injured in Victorian child care centres and kindergartens. Most of these are musculoskeletal injuries (sprains and strains, fractures and soft tissue injuries) caused by everyday activities like moving play equipment, lifting children and sitting on small chairs.
You can learn more about ways to control the most common causes of workplace injury in children's services. You can also download two posters to print out and put up in your workplace.
HSR Support Officers are also available to help build the knowledge and skills of health and safety representatives in this sector.
