About this publication


In case of fire or spillage, the HAZCHEM code on a vehicle placard instructs emergency services on:

  • the medium to use to combat the incident
  • the level of personal protective equipment to be worn
  • whether the goods should be contained or diluted
  • the possibility of a violent reaction
  • the safety hazard posed to the public
