Correctly placarding your dangerous goods
Incorrectly placarding dangerous goods is a serious occupational health and safety hazard which can result in workplace injuries.
Dangerous goods can cause serious injury - chemical inhalation, poisoning and burns – or even death, and can severely damage property and the environment. Therefore, it’s extremely important that they are stored and handled safely.
To help you reduce this risk, WorkSafe have developed a useful online calculator called the ‘Dangerous Goods Ready Reckoner’, which advises you how to correctly placard your dangerous goods.
Using this free online tool, you can enter the quantities, type and location of all dangerous goods on your premises. Based on the information you provide, an easy-to-read report will be generated outlining your signage requirements, to ensure your dangerous goods are correctly labelled.
By correctly placarding your dangerous goods, you comply with the law and provide your employees/colleagues with a safe workplace where risks are controlled.
