Teaching OHS in School
SAFE T1 will soon be generating OHS resources based on applied learning principles – enabling students to learn about OHS differently. In the meantime, we have collated existing resources that can be adapted to the Victorian secondary school curriculum.
OHS teaching and learning resources tend to be content-driven, text-based and rather dull. OHS is something you "do" – as in "let's do OHS and get it out of the way" or "that's something we'll do on the last Friday of term". The "doing" of OHS in the classroom can be quite disconnected from the reality that by the time kids are fifteen, many are already working – and at risk of injury.
In using the listed resources, be aware that OHS laws are not uniform across all Australian states and territories or from one country to another. However the same principles apply and methods for controlling common workplace hazards and risks are often similar – whether you work in Australia, Canada or Britain.
We have listed resources by state or country and included a short description of the resource and its intended audience.
Let us know which sites you find most useful – and tell us about any others you’ve found so that we can share them on this site.
