About the sector
Local government (councils) sector provides a wide range of services to their local communities either directly or through contractors. Some of the services provided, include:
- community services – which includes home and personal care

- children's services
- garbage collection and recycling
- road and bridge construction
- maintenance of parks, gardens, sporting grounds and recreation facilities
