Incidents at Major Hazard Facilities
WorkSafe annually publishes a report of serious and significant incidents that occurred at Victorian MHFs. The report is intended to share information which may help others to improve safety and prevent harmful consequences for people and property. MHF operators contribute to the content of the report with WorkSafe, and provide the safety insights gained from the incidents.
The format of the report is WorkSafe's brief factual description of the incidents and the WorkSafe response, followed by the MHF operator's comments on prevention actions and safety lessons arising from the incidents. Company contact details are provided for those wanting further information on specific incidents.
The report for 2005 outlines the 4 serious and significant incidents reported during that year. Two (2) of these incidents involved Schedule 1 materials. Total numbers of incidents in all categories reported by MHFs during 2005 have stabilised, and WorkSafe acknowledges the continued efforts of MHF operators in maintaining the reduced incident rates during 2005.
