What are the risks?
Work in the mining industry involves a range of risks due to the varied nature of the tasks that are carried out and the environment in which they are carried out.
Fatalities and serious injuries most often occur as a result of:
- being struck by a falling object
- vehicle accidents
- being crushed between moving equipment and stationary objects
- explosions
- falls from height
Other risks include fires, plant, noxious or asphyxiating gases, manual handling and poisoning risks involved in working with certain minerals.
