The Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 sets out the key principles, duties and rights in relation to workplace health and safety.
In addition, new regulations for occupational health and safety came into effect on 1 July 2007, which outline obligations regarding specific hazards.

Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 (OHS Regulations 2007)
New regulations for Occupational Health and Safety came into effect on 1 July 2007.
Part 5.3 of the OHS Regulations contain additional requirements for mines. These regulations do not apply to quarry sites.
Additional Regulations specific to construction work commence operation on 1 July 2008
While these additional regulations do not directly apply to the extraction of stone, all construction work must comply with Part 5.1 of the OHS Regulations. In other words, the additional Regulations will apply to quarry site activities such as construction work associated with processing and crushing plants, buildings and access roads.
