Training

Bullying has been linked to situations of role conflict and uncertainty.

Employers should make sure employees understand their role and have the appropriate skills to do their job. Employees with a designated role in handling reports of bullying should receive specific training.

Topics to cover include:

  • workplace policy and procedures
  • how to deal with bullying
  • how the organisation deals with bullying
  • how to comply with the policy
  • measures used in the workplace to prevent bullying.

Training can be tailored to meet the special needs of particular employee groups. ‘Special needs’ can relate to work experience, gender, disability, ethnicity and/or literacy.

Induction

Employers should ensure information about workplace bullying, including any relevant policies and procedures, is included in employee inductions. All employees should be informed, instructed or trained in workplace policies and procedures.
