Safety secrets to be revealed
15 October 2009
WorkSafe is getting the safety message to Victorian school students through the 3in6 video competition, run by the Victorian Information Technology Teachers Association (VITTA).
Teams of students will have six hours to plan, film, edit and create a three-minute video focused on workplace safety – 3in6!
Teams will be told two safety 'secrets' and must include them in their video or animation piece.
One ‘secret’ will be an object or idea, and the other will be words that must be spoken.
The manager of WorkSafe’s Workplace Support and Education Division Jill McCabe said the challenge was to not only include the competition 'secrets' but use them creatively to engage an audience of their peers.
‘Many students have part-time jobs while they are at school, yet many might not be aware of health and safety issues in their workplace and even if they are, may be afraid to speak up,’
‘People aged 15-24 are more likely to be severely hurt at work than any other age group and more often than not, these injuries are completely preventable.
“3in6 is a great way for WorkSafe to engage with young people about the importance of health and safety.’
Schools will be given the ‘secrets’ and the competition will run on Thursday 29 October.
