Getting assistance - Occupational rehabilitation

After being injured at work, your WorkSafe Agent may suggest the services of an occupational rehabilitation provider who can help you:

  • return to work with your existing employer, or
  • return to work with a new employer.

Occupational rehabilitation is about preparing you, your employer and your workplace (where possible) for your return to work.

Occupational rehabilitation providers are independent of WorkSafe and WorkSafe Agents. Their purpose is to provide independent and impartial assistance and advice to help you return to work.

Getting you back to your existing job

An occupational rehabilitation provider can help you return to your existing job by:

  • Determining duties appropriate for your return to work.
  • Suggesting any changes to your workplace to help your transition back to work.
  • Assisting you to gain skills in other areas of work.

It's your choice

If your WorkSafe Agent decides that an occupational rehabilitation provider would be useful in helping you to return to work, they will offer you the choice of at least three WorkSafe approved providers (where available).  You will have 14 days to make a decision about which one to use.
