WorkSafe medical certificates
If you have a work-related injury or illness and cannot do your normal job, you will need a specific medical certificate to give your employer details of your injury and what you might be capable of doing. This is known as a Certificate of Capacity.
First certificate
- This is for the first 14 days of your injury
- It must be issued by a medical practitioner
- For new claims it should be provided with the WorkSafe Worker's Injury Claim Form
Additional certificates
- These can be for up to 28 days each
- They can be issued and signed by medical practitioners, chiropractors, physiotherapists or osteopaths
You must have a certificate if you wish to continue to claim compensation in the form of weekly payments.
