Board

WorkSafe is governed by a Board which is accountable to the Government, stakeholders and society.

The following is a list of current board members:


Paul Barker (Acting Chair)

 

B.Bus., FCA, ACIS

Paul Barker was appointed a Director of the Victorian WorkCover Authority in February 2001 and is currently Deputy Chairman. He is a member of the Authority’s Audit and Risk Management Committee, and Remuneration and People Committee.

Paul is Chairman of the Transport Accident Commission, Chairman of the Essential Services Telecommunications Authority, Chairman of Stadium Operations Ltd. (Etihad Stadium), Chairman of Mirvac Funds Management Ltd., Mirvac REIT Management Ltd. and Hotel Capital Partners Ltd.; a former Director of Employment National Ltd and a past Chairman of the Victorian Division of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Paul has extensive experience in accounting and financial services both in Australia and overseas. Formerly Chief Executive of Audit Victoria, he also held senior group executive positions with Standard Chartered Bank in Hong Kong, Singapore and London. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a Member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries.

Geoff Hilton

B.Sc.(Hons), M.Sc., FCA, MAPS

Geoff Hilton was appointed a Director of the Victorian WorkCover Authority in March 2007. He is also a Director of the Transport Accident Commission..

Geoff Hilton was the MLC for Western Port from November 2002 and served on the Environment and Natural Resources Committee. Born and educated in the UK, Geoff was previously an Accountant, Management Consultant and Executive Recruitment Consultant.

Geoff is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (England and Wales), Institute of Chartered Accounts (Australia), and the Australian Psychological Society.

Geoff Brooke

 

MBBS, MBA

Geoff was appointed a Director of the Victorian WorkCover Authority in June 2009. He is a Managing Director of GBS Venture Partners and has more than 20 years venture capital experience.

Dr. Brooke's VC experience includes start-up financings, public company placements and corporate acquisitions, as well as public listings on both NASDAQ and ASX. He has been an investor, executive and director of private and public companies, and is currently on the board of directors of several GBS portfolio companies.

Dr. Brooke is licensed in clinical medicine by the Medical Board of Victoria, Australia and his post-graduate studies were in anaesthetics/intensive care. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery from the University of Melbourne, Australia and a Masters of Business Administration from IMEDE (now IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Jane Bell

 

LLB, BEc, LLM(London), FAICD

Jane Bell was appointed a Director of WorkSafe Victoria in 2009. She is a member of the Audit and Risk Management Committee. Jane is also Deputy Chair of Westernport Water Corporation, a non-executive director of Melbourne Health (Royal Melbourne Hospital) and Prince Henry’s Institute of Medical Research.

Jane has over 22 years experience in international banking and finance in senior legal roles in Australia, United Kingdom, Canada and the USA including with Wesfarmers (Melbourne and Brisbane), Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (Toronto), Norton Rose (London), Chartered WestLB (London), Mallesons Stephen Jaques (Melbourne), Ford Credit Australia Limited (Melbourne) and Corrs Chambers Westgarth (Melbourne).

Jane holds a Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Economics, Master of Laws (London) and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

David Krasnostein

BJuris (Hons), LLB, LLM

David Krasnostein joined the Board in December 2011. He was formerly CEO of MLC Private Equity, one of Australia's oldest and largest global private equity investors with over $4billion of assets in Europe, the USA, China, India, Australia and South America. Prior to that appointment David was Chief General Counsel of National Australia Bank, the first General Counsel of Telstra and Head of Strategic and Corporate Planning, a partner at the Chicago law firm of Sidley Austin in Washington DC, and a lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York.

David is a Director of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the Public Interest Law Clearing House (PILCH), a member of the Federal Attorney General's International Legal Services Advisory Council (ILSAC), and Chairman of Global Reconciliation and the Qualitas Advisory Board.

Greg Tweedly (Chief Executive)

B.Comm

Greg was appointed Chief Executive Officer in February 2003, after rejoining the Victorian WorkCover Authority as Acting CEO from September 2002. Greg held senior positions with the Transport Accident Commission from 1996 – 2002 including Chief Operating Officer responsible for all Claims Management functions. He is currently Chair of the Major Hazards Advisory Committee.

Greg previously worked for the VWA (and its predecessor the Accident Compensation Commission) in numerous senior positions including Chief Financial Officer and later Director responsible for the regulation of the Victorian Workers Compensation system.

Pre 1990, Greg held senior financial positions at V/Line and the Melbourne Metropolitan Board of Works (MMBW).

Greg has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Melbourne University and is currently a Director of the Personal Injury Education Foundation and a Director of the Institute for Safety, Compensation and Recovery Research. He is also a Member of Safe Work Australia Council, Chair of the Safe Work Australia Strategic Issues Group - Workers Compensation, and Chair of Heads of Workers Compensation Authorities.
