Why WorkSafe exists

7:55 am to 8:45am

Learn about WorkSafe's purpose to reduce workplace harm as Victoria's occupational health and safety regulator, and improve outcomes for injured workers as the state's workplace injury insurer. This session will cover the basics of WorkSafe's role in harm prevention, enforcement, recovery and return to work and how we can advise and support employers to create safe workplaces.

Hazardous manual handling basics

9:00 am to 9:50am

Around 36% of workplace injuries in Victoria are for musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) caused by hazardous manual handling. Most work involves manual handling every day, but addressing hazardous manual handling can feel complicated and overwhelming.

In this session you’ll learn about the guidance, practical tools and education programs that WorkSafe have developed to help your business prevent MSDs from hazardous manual handling.

How to support injured workers back to safe work

10:00 am to 10:50am

Every injured worker's pathway to recovery and return to work is as unique as they are. A Return to Work Inspector will talk about the return to work process, common challenges and how they can be overcome and the support available to improve outcomes for injured workers.

Dealing with drugs and alcohol in the workplace

11:00 am to 11:50am

The effects of drugs and alcohol are compromising health and safety in the workplace. Do you know how to deal with these issues?

Learn about the risk factors and why your organisation may benefit from a drug and alcohol program. You'll discover the latest drug and alcohol policies and the benefits of having one, plus you'll get a practical sample policy outlining the development, consultation, workforce involvement and implementation steps involved to get one in place.
