The Freedom of Information Act 1982 gives any person the right, subject to certain exemptions, to access documents about WorkSafe activities.

The FOI Act is just one of the processes available to the public to access WorkSafe documents or information. Most communications or exchange of information with third parties occurs administratively in the normal course of our business and with injured workers directly or through our authorised agents administratively, or under the WIRC Act.

WorkSafe is the regulator of workplace occupational health and safety system and the rehabilitation and compensation system in Victoria.
WorkSafe publishes a large volume of information online, print publishing and provides information services in person and/or by phone, through its Advisory Services, Annual Report, WorkSafe website, library at 222 Exhibition Street, and any of its or its agents offices across Victoria.
Organisation and functions
Information about WorkSafe, its structure, functions, legislation administered, WorkSafe scheme and about requests for access to information made under the FOI Act or the Accident Compensation Act 1985 can be found in the Annual Report.
Material or publications, including policies, manuals, guidelines, codes of practice, brochures and other material is available throughout the website at the relevant section (e.g. injury claims management related guidelines and information under Injury & Claims) or the publications section by key words on specific topic or document. Legislation administered by WorkSafe is available on this website.
Categories of documents
Records are managed using TRIM and are organised by subject and type (form, policy, guidance, etc.), and filed by business area and subject matter.
Injury claims are filed by name and managed by authorised Agents in accordance with WorkSafe's record management policy and authorities and standards issued by the Public Records Office of Victoria under the Public Records Act 1973.
