Nine winners were honoured for their outstanding service to injured workers in a gala event at the Myer Mural Hall

Special guest at the annual event was Australian Paralympian Jack Swift, who had his lower right leg amputated after a workplace accident in 2006.

Jack said it was important case managers, injury management advisors and return to work specialists received suitable recognition for their valuable work.

“Without you, people like me wouldn’t be able to do the things I’ve gone on to do,” he told the audience.

“I could have easily just sat on the couch and felt sorry for myself after the accident, but getting back to work and getting on with my life was good for my health, physically and mentally.

“I couldn’t have done it without the help of my case manager at Gallagher Bassett.”

WorkSafe’s Injury Support & Service Executive Director Len Boehm said the energy in the room reflected the passion and dedication of those working in the industry.

“No matter how hard the job seems, no matter how difficult the targets, no matter how complex the complaints, when I hear the inspirational stories tonight, I know that I am in the right industry and in the right state.”

The Outstanding Contribution by an Individual trophy was awarded to Kylie Burns, from Allianz, who was recognised for her dedicated work over a period of 20 years.

“This is something I certainly wasn’t expecting, but it’s a good feeling to be recognised for all the hard work. This is work that I love, so it means a lot to me.”

The evening was attended by WorkSafe Chief Executive Denise Cosgrove, Deputy Chief Executive Ian Forsyth and senior management for all five agents.
