Farm safety with Ben Cunnington
[Gentle music begins – Ben Cunnington is leaning on a hay trough, with cows visible in the background.]
Text on screen: Ben Cunnington – Football player and beef farmer
Ben Cunnington: My name's Ben Cunnington, from the North Melbourne Football Club.
[Scene moves to show close up vision of the cattle.]
We run beef. At the minute we have 68 head of Angus cattle.
[Returns to a panoramic shot of Ben surveying the cattle from the hay trough.]
I was brought up on a dairy farm as well as my wife, so we're both brought up in the country.
[An interview shot of Ben speaking directly to the camera.]
Seen first-hand how hard it can be but also seen the enjoyments, the pleasure, the variation in the job and working outside with the animals.
[Ben walks across a muddy road, watching over his cattle in the adjacent field.]
There's definitely a lot more positives to outweigh the negatives…
[A sweeping shot over the tops of the cattle.]
…and that's what we wanted to pursue…
[Returns to Ben's interview shot.]
…post-footy for our family, especially our kids growing up.
[Shows a sweeping shot of the hay trough, Ben begins to pull out hay to feed the cattle.]
Safety is everything, if you're injured obviously you're not going to be playing the game you love so keep safe, keep your body right…
[Returns to Ben’s interview shot.]
...then you get to go out there every weekend and play the game we love. We do a lot of stuff, a lot of injury prevention weights, training. Obviously extra recovery and all that.
[Cuts to a shot of an iron cattle yard, Ben checks it over.]
Safety on the farm is just as important if not more. Having a young family, we like doing things together…
[Cuts back to Ben’s interview shot.]
...getting each other involved, so, safety's huge and we definitely try and set everything up around it.
[Ben pats the cattle through the cattle yard.]
We recently just purchased some cattle yards, we customised them...
[Ben swings open the gate, showing the camera around the cattle yard.]
...with safety being number one, so we can work with the cattle as a family and know we're going to be safe...
[Closes out on Ben's interview shot.]
…and we can have some fun doing it.
Video concludes.
