Text on screen: Tip #01 Scaffolding
0:08
When we turn up to a site, the first thing we're looking for from a scaffolding point of view,

is the scaffold complete. By generally glancing over a scaffold you can see whether the bracing is where it should be,
0:21
does it continue all the way to the top of the scaffold.
0:24
Handrails in place, ok, and then also too is there kickboards, if kickboards are required on there,
0:31
they're the general tell-tale signs.
0:33
As we get closer to the scaffold, we'd be looking at the working decks to make sure that all the decks are complete,
0:38
Does it have proper access to the scaffold?
0:40
And then, sort of, as we get closer again, we're starting to look at things like ties, other braces,
0:45
those type of things.
0:48
So from a general point of view, it's just a glance over – bracing, handrails, working decks, those things.
0:55
Tips about safety with scaffolds, making sure that the scaffold's complete – that's probably number 1.
1:01
So checking all of your working decks, making sure they're complete – there's no areas where you could fall,
1:06
or objects could fall through.
1:08
Making sure all handrails, guard rails are all in place, mid-rails, kickboards or toe boards are in place as well.
1:16
Also too, the access point, making sure the access is appropriate for the scaffold. If it's a mobile scaffold,
1:23
the access ladder should be internal, which means you should come up through a flap in one of the decks.
1:30
And we should be able to close that flap over once we're up on the scaffold deck itself.
1:36
From a placement point of view, if you need to work or lean outside of the guard rails of the scaffold, then generally the scaffold is not
1:44
appropriate for the task that we're doing –
1:46
so maybe we need to either shift the scaffold or we need to find another way of doing the task.
1:51
Also too, a ScaffTag – if it's a scaffold that's been provided should have a ScaffTag on it to say
1:58
when it was erected, who by, signed off by and that'll tell you what sort of weight limit can be used on the scaffold as well.
