Wet and muddy conditions - Matt Davis
[music begins – Matt Davis is speaking to camera on-farm.]
Text on screen: Matt Davis, Director, Established Tree Planters
Matt Davis: My name is Matt Davis, I'm from Established Tree Transplanters.
[Close-up shot of a car door opening. Car door reads "Established Tree Transplanters and Nurseries" and features the business's logo.]
We're a large wholesale nursery here in Victoria
[Wide shot of a car driving on a dirt road across the property, surrounded by young trees.]
in the Yarra Valley. This particular farm is on a very steep slope.
[Matt Davis walks between large machinery.]
We have very rich muddy soils.
[Close-up of a muddy car tyre.]
That's a big risk, once it gets wet
[Wide shot of tree spade machine in motion, exiting a shed on the property.]
you're dealing with equipment that can be anywhere up to four to 16 tonnes.
[Returns to Matt Davis, speaking to camera.]
So once you start heading down
[Shot facing through a car windshield while traveling on a dirt road across the property. Young trees on either side of the road.]
a slope and it gets a bit slippery it does take off.
[Wide shot of a worker in protective gear preparing to spray trees. The cord of the worker's spraying device leads to a red vehicle.]
So, with all these different types of machinery that we use
[interior close-up shot of Matt driving his car.]
we do have an enormous amount of responsibility for people's safety.
[Mid-shot of worker spraying trees while wearing protective gear. The worker crouches to avoid branches as he moves between trees.]
So there's a lot of risk and there's a lot of training.
[Returns to Matt Davis, speaking to camera.]
And a lot that goes on to make sure that the people who are operating those particular machines are well trained and versed in using that equipment.
[Mid-shot of two employees working together to plant a tree.]
So, they do a lot of external training.
[Mid-shot of a tree spade machine in motion, the front of the machine moves towards the ground.]
Most of them have also got their dogman ticket,
[Mid-shot of Matt Davis exiting the cabin of the tree spade machine.]
their excavator ticket. Just to create general awareness of equipment and heavy machinery.
[Returns to Matt Davis, speaking to camera.]
We've had accidents, I'm not afraid to say. And hopefully we all learn from them in terms of changing the way that we do it.
