Worker electrocuted by overhead power line

WorkSafe is investigating the death of a worker after an incident during an irrigation installation at an orchard in Koonoomoo, near Cobram, on Thursday.

It is believed the 49-year-old man, who was working alone, was handling a 6.5 metre length of aluminium pole when electricity from an overhead power line passed through it, causing electrocution.

He was found deceased by a colleague about 2pm on Friday after being reported missing.

The death is the 36th confirmed workplace fatality for 2025. There were 38 work-related deaths at the same time last year.
