Builder charged after worker's fatal fall

WorkSafe has charged a building company after a worker died following an incident at a Doncaster East construction site in March 2024.

The 56-year-old man sustained serious head injuries when he fell more than two metres while pouring concrete from a plank that was suspended between two A-frame ladders.

Great Home Group Pty Ltd faces a single charge under section 26(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to ensure a workplace under its management or control was safe and without risks to health.

It is alleged the company failed to eliminate or reduce the risk of serious injury or death by failing to provide, or ensure workers used, a passive fall prevention device.

The matter is listed for a filing hearing at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 12 January 2026.
