Bayside Health

Led by Bayside Health and implemented within Alfred Health and St Vincent’s Hospitals, this trial will leverage methods successfully applied at Peninsula Health. It utilises a restrictive intervention framework that embeds trauma-informed and human rights-based practices across a mental health service.

The University of Melbourne’s Industry Trial is being delivered across four early childhood service providers: Early Childhood Management Services, Eureka Kinder Association, Gowrie, and Early Learning Victoria. It will focus on practical tools for leaders to improve workplace safety culture through improved job design, work scheduling, and implementing a prevention focused risk management approach.

Barwon Health

Delivered across Barwon Health and the Royal Women’s Hospitals, this trial targets vicarious trauma experienced by healthcare support roles. It embeds systems-level change to map, control and reduce trauma exposure and mobility.

Partnerships for impact

The Industry Trials deliver on Recommendation 16(2) of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System and support WorkSafe’s purpose to reduce injuries and improve outcomes for injured workers.

Each of the four Industry Trials will:

  • Run for three years and focus on an industry with high rates of mental injury claims.
  • Offer a unique partnership between industry experts, trial workplaces, unions, psychological health and safety specialists and WorkSafe.
  • Work together as a group of partners by bringing together the right expertise, connections and experience to deliver an Industry Trial aiming to better manage psychosocial hazards and enable improvements in systems of work and workplace safety cultures.

A core feature of the program is co‑design where each Industry Trial will engage experts to work directly with workers and workplaces to develop practical, evidence‑informed interventions. This approach ensures solutions are grounded in real‑world experience and strengthens industry capability to better manage the psychosocial risks present in their workplaces.

The aim of the Psychological Health Industry Trials is to improve psychological health and safety by making everyday work practices safer and helping Victorian industries build knowledge, confidence and capability in reducing mental injury.
