Compliance code: Engineered stone

This compliance code provides practical guidance on how to comply with obligations under Victoria’s occupational health and safety legislation in relation to exposure to crystalline silica dust as a result of performing work with engineered stone.

What it contains

This Code provides practical guidance to duty holders on how to comply with their duties under the OHS Act and the OHS Regulations. This includes when and how they can work safely with engineered stone to meet those obligations.

Part 1 of the Code outlines when work with engineered stone benchtops, panels and slabs is prohibited by the OHS Regulations. It also outlines when work may be carried out as an exemption or an exception to the prohibition or is not work that is prohibited.

The Code also provides information about the risk management process, how to identify hazards and how to control the risks associated with exposure to crystalline silica dust when doing work with existing engineered stone products that are not prohibited.

It replaces the Compliance Code - Managing Exposure to Crystalline Silica: Engineered Stone (Edition 2, 2022).
