We commissioned qualitative research to better understand the mindsets, motivations and behaviours shaping seatbelt use on farms.

Seatbelts are inconsistently used in tractors and side-by-sides as daily farm vehicles.

The research explores how farmers see risk, influences on seatbelt use, and opportunities for change.

Information on agricultural deaths 2001-2024

The AgHealth Australia infographics use separate data sources. There’s a difference in the number of fatalities reported for Victoria in each report. This is due to what’s considered a workplace death under the WorkSafe Victoria scheme, compared with all deaths on farms (i.e. work and non-work). Please note:

• The Victorian workplace fatalities data uses WorkSafe Victoria data sources only.
• The Australian fatality data was sourced from AgHealth Australia’s farm fatalities dataset, which is derived from the National Coronial Information System (NCIS). The NCIS is the database source of the data and the Victorian Department of Justice and Community Safety is the organisation source of the data.
