This webpage provides the steps and information required to:
- apply for a new asbestos removal licence
- renew an existing asbestos removal licence
- amend an existing asbestos removal licence.

We'll be using the information from your myWorkSafe account to complete your licence application. Check that your details are correct. You can update your information in myWorkSafe.
Application form
Complete the form in myWorkSafe and make sure all information and supporting documentation is current.
For this step, you’ll need to provide the following information.
If you’re applying on behalf of a company, you need to provide:
- your ABN or ACN
- your registered business address
- your primary business and postal address
- an ASIC company extract
- a completed non-individual ID form.
If you’re applying on behalf of a partnership, you need to provide:
- your ABN or ACN
- your business name (optional)
- your registered business address
- your primary business and postal address
- your partnership deed or agreement
- a non-individual ID form for each partner if the partners are companies
- a 100 point ID check form for each partner if the partners are individuals.
If you’re applying on behalf of a trust, you need to provide:
- your ABN or ACN
- your business name (optional)
- your registered business address
- your primary business and postal address
- your trust deed
- a non-individual ID form for each trustee if the trustees are companies
- a 100 point ID check form for each trustee if the trustees are individuals.
If you’re self-employed, you need to provide:
- your ABN
- your registered business address
- your primary business and postal address.
As the applicant, you’ll be the primary contact for the licence.
Select whether you are the legally responsible person, or are applying on behalf of legally responsible person(s).
If there are other legally responsible persons, you’ll need to provide details of people who will become legally responsible persons for the licence. These names must appear on the business’ ABN or ACN.
For this step, you’ll need to provide the following information.
To get a Class A licence, select the licence class type:
- Class A – All friable
- Class A – Specific friable (required to select the specific items)
For a Class A licence, you need to provide a current external Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management System certificate related to asbestos removal.
If you don’t have an OHS Management System certificate, you can upload proof of a review if you have been audited by an OHS officer in the past 6 months.
If you’re applying for a licence to remove a specific type of asbestos-containing material, you’ll need to choose the type of material. If it’s not listed, you can select ‘Other’ and enter the material.
To get a Class B licence, you will need to select the licence class type:
- Class B – All non-friable
- Class B – Specific non-friable (required to select the specific items)
For this step, you’ll need to provide details about the following.
Select the number of employees (site supervisors and asbestos removalists) the licence will cover.
Provide the following information for each site supervisor.
- RTO delivered site supervisor training course
- at least 2 years' experience as a WorkSafe licensed asbestos removalist
- at least 6 asbestos removal projects in the past 2 years
- medical practitioners' reports from the past 2 years for the site supervisors to confirm they are medically fit for work.
Evidence of experience can include previous notifications provided to WorkSafe or project logs.
Provide the following information for each asbestos removalist (excluding site supervisors).
- proof of completing the ‘Remove friable asbestos’ training course, or
- proof of completing the ‘Remove non-friable asbestos’ training course, and
- proof of completing refresher training, if applicable
- Medical practitioners' reports from the past 2 years to confirm they are medically fit for work.
For this step, you’ll need to provide details about the following.
- Your worksite vacuum cleaner - include the brand, model and confirm that it is a hazardous dust class H vacuum cleaner.
- All respiratory protective equipment used, including brand, model details, filter type and compliance with Australian standards.
- Protective clothing being used (details of disposable coveralls or laundering of contaminated clothing may be required).
This section applies to you or anyone else responsible for the licence.
Let us know if you hold a licence or approval for asbestos removal work in any other Australian state or territory.
If you answered ‘Yes’, provide the following information.
- Licence number
- State or territory that issued the licence
- Expiry date
- Supporting documents
Licence refusals, suspensions and cancellations
Let us know if you, or anyone else responsible for the licence at the business, have previously had:
- an asbestos removal licence application refused
- an asbestos removal licence suspended or cancelled in any Australian state or territory.
If you answered ‘Yes’, provide the following information.
- The date of the refusal, suspension or cancellation.
- The state or territory that refused the application, or suspended or cancelled the licence.
- A brief description of the refusal, suspension or cancellation.
Let us know if you, or anyone else responsible for the licence at the business, has previously had a licence or approval suspended or cancelled under any occupational health and safety legislation.
If you answered ‘Yes’, provide the following information.
- The date of the suspension or cancellation.
- The state or territory the licence was suspended or cancelled in.
- A brief description of the suspension or cancellation.
You’ll need to provide information about whether you, or anyone else responsible for the licence at the business, ever been found guilty of:
- any asbestos-related offence under the Environment Protection Act 1970 (as in force immediately before its repeal), the Environment Protection Act 2017, or any regulations under these acts, or
- any offence under any occupational health and safety legislation.
If you answered ‘Yes’, provide the following information.
- Date of the offence
- Where the offence occurred
- Brief description of the event
- Supporting documents
Check the information you have provided and make any necessary changes before saving the form. Read and agree to the consent and declaration.
Pay and submit application
You’ll need to pay a fee if you submit a new or renewal application. The website will take you to Service Victoria to pay online.
Licence amendments are free.
Licence amendments
You can make the following amendments to your licence.
- Nominate additional site supervisors
- Remove existing site supervisors
- Edit existing site supervisors’ details
- Add, edit or remove legally responsible persons
- Change your licence class (excluding Class B to Class A)
- Update the specific types of asbestos-containing materials to be removed under the licence (if applicable)
- Update training and fit for work documentation for asbestos removalists and site supervisors
- Change your licence details, such as business name, addresses, protective equipment and conviction history
To change your licence class type from Class B to Class A, you’ll need to apply for a new licence. You need to pay a fee when submitting a new licence application.
Licence amendments are free and do not change your current licence expiry date.
Licence renewals
You will receive a renewal notice 90 days before your licence is due to expire.
When renewing your licence, you can also make amendments to your licence details. For more information, see the ‘Licence amendments’ section above.
You’ll need to pay a fee to renew your licence.
Your licence will be valid for up to 5 years.
