Build Aware

Aims to raise awareness and ensure Victorians understand their obligations to comply with building, construction, environment, plumbing, occupational health and safety laws.

Build Aware educational campaign

The Build Aware program involves partnerships between Energy Safe Victoria (ESV), Environment Protection Authority (EPA), Victorian Building Authority (VBA) and WorkSafe Victoria, working together to deliver industry oversight of laws that protect owners, builders and the community. It helps raise awareness to ensure Victorians understand their obligations to comply with building, construction, environment, plumbing, and occupational health and safety laws.

The Build Aware program is conducted three times a year in targeted regional areas. The four regulators deliver joint activities across five days that include inspections, industry trade breakfasts and educational presentations to apprentices at local TAFEs.

Attention tradies - is your site inspection-ready?

We are bringing Build Aware to to Bairnsdale this March. Inspectors from all four regulators will be visiting Bairnsdale and surrounds from Monday 4 - Friday 8 March, 2024.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to review the online tools and guidance, and make sure you're meeting your OHS obligations to keep yourself and your workers safe on site.

The inspectors will be paying special attention to:

  • Risks associated with exposure to crystalline silica dust in common construction tasks (outside of engineered stone).
  • Prevention of falls from heights.
