Explosives licences

WorkSafe issues five different types of explosives licence for tasks such as manufacturing, storing, transporting, selling and discharging.

Blasting explosives licence  

A licence that allows you to use and purchase blasting explosives and may authorise the limited manufacture of ammonium nitrate - fuel oil (up to 50kgs) for your own use.

Driver transporting explosives licence  

The application for an explosives licence authorises you to drive a vehicle transporting explosives by land above the prescribed quantities.

Licence to manufacture, store, sell or import explosives  

A licence allowing you to manufacture, store, sell or import explosives.

Licence to transport explosives by road and rail  

A licence for a vehicle to transport explosives by road or rail.

Pyrotechnician licence  

To use fireworks you must hold a licence to use fireworks as a pyrotechnician. This licence also allows you to temporarily store and transport limited amounts of fireworks.

Fireworks discharge notification

Complete this online form to notify WorkSafe at least seven days before discharging fireworks or Chinese firecrackers.
