About identity checks at Australia Post

You can confirm your identity at Australia Post when:

  • you can't complete the online identity check for a high risk work licence application
  • applying for a high risk work licence at Australia Post
  • directed by WorkSafe

You'll need identification documents and a recent passport size photo. Take the documents to a participating Australia Post outlet for post office staff to certify and lodge.

Identification documents

Your documents need to add up a minimum of 100 points. You need at least three original documents, including:

  • at least one document from Category A or Category B that includes your photo and signature
  • at least one document that shows your current address

Category A documents (70 points each)

  • Australian passport – current or expired less than 2 years ago
  • Australian birth certificate
  • Australian citizenship certificate
  • foreign passport – must be current

Category B documents (initial document worth 40 points, additional documents worth 25 points each)

  • current Australia driver licence
  • Australian Public Service employee ID card with photo
  • other Australian government issue ID card with photo
  • tertiary student ID card with photo

Category C documents (25 points each)

  • credit/debit/ATM card – maximum of one card from any one financial institution
  • Medicare card
  • utility bill or rate notice, for example water rates, council rates, electricity or gas; must be less than 12 months old
  • statement from a financial institution where you have held the account for at least one year
  • Centrelink or pension card
