Carnival ride operator charged following child’s death

The operator of an amusement ride has been charged by WorkSafe Victoria following the death of a child who fell from a ride at Rye Easter Carnival last year.

The six-year-old boy received critical head injuries after falling from the Cha Cha ride on 17 April 2017, and died later in hospital.

Wittingslow Carnivals Pty Ltd is charged with a breach of section 23 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, that persons other than its employees were not exposed to risks to their health and safety.

Charges were filed in the Dromana Magistrates’ Court today.
