More charges for alleged chemical stockpiles
WorkSafe has charged Bradbury Industrial Services Pty Ltd with additional alleged breaches of the Dangerous Goods Act.
The new charges relate to a chemical stockpile at a warehouse in Campbellfield.
They follow 35 charges already filed in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court, in relation to alleged chemical stockpiles at other Bradbury's sites in Campbellfield and Craigieburn.
The company, which is now in liquidation, has been accused of committing seven offences under sections 31(1) and 45 of the Act.
WorkSafe alleges Bradbury failed to take all reasonable precautions to prevent a fire or explosion of dangerous goods at the premises.
It is also alleged the company failed to reduce the risks associated with dangerous goods storage and failed to notify WorkSafe of an excess quantity of dangerous goods at the site.
Having exceeded the regulated fire protection quantity of dangerous goods, it is alleged Bradbury failed to request the advice of the relevant emergency services in relation to a fire protection system and failed to have a written fire protection plan.
It is also alleged the company failed to properly display HAZCHEM placarding and failed to keep a manifest of its dangerous goods.
The stockpile was uncovered in March 2019 as part of a joint WorkSafe and Environment Protection Authority investigation into chemical storage in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
The latest charges were listed for a filing hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on April 3 2020.
