Contamination can be a health risk to site workers people nearby. This document outlines the industry standards for building contractors to develop safe work practices on contaminated sites. It explains:

• how occupational health and safety (OHS) laws apply to people who control contaminated work sites
• what is a contaminated site, including examples of contaminants, potential health effects and how people can be exposed
• how to develop a plan to protect a worker’s health
• which control measures to use, including removing or capping soil, using personal protective equipment and clothing, creating work zones and securing contaminated areas

At the end of the document there is a list of industry sites that could be contaminated and a checklist for contamination on construction sites.
