Re-designing workplaces to improve mental health, wellbeing and productivity

The 'Simplify' project is a systems level approach that creates strategies and tools for organisations to integrate wellbeing into ways of working and address work-related factors associated with poor mental health. Participating organisations include Jemena and Metro Trains Melbourne.

The project aims to reduce workplace complexity and create a framework for effectively managing job demands and support work simplification.

About the project

Interventions will involve co-designing improved systems and processes, embedding workplace practices to optimise mental health and wellbeing, and developing technology to support ongoing implementation.

Pre and post assessments will be conducted using wearable technology to determine times when employees are particularly at risk. Leaders and managers will be trained in the use of the new tools, and the project will develop a 'lessons learned' website to communicate the 'recipe book' for an efficient, productive and mentally healthy workplace. There will also be an app available for industry which will support organisations to simplify their workplace.
