In Victoria, ammonium nitrate and mixtures or emulsions containing more than 45% ammonium nitrate are considered high consequence dangerous goods.

High consequence dangerous goods permit requirements

Anyone who has access to high consequence dangerous goods must hold a licence for the activity or a permit if working for an employer who holds a licence.

Important note

  • your employer must hold a High Consequence Dangerous Goods licence
  • if you have previously completed an ASIO security assessment through WorkSafe you do not need to repeat or pay for this assessment again.

Receiving the permit

We will make a decision on your permit application, and write to you with that decision, within 40 days of receiving your application.

If your permit application is approved you'll be able to access the digital permit immediately in myWorkSafe.

We'll also send a plastic card permit in the mail which you should receive in 20 to 25 business days from the date of the decision.
