Pilot programs for improving return to work outcomes

Return to Work Innovations (RTWI) has been established to work with Victorian industry and community partners. It will trial new programs to improve return to work outcomes.

As part of this work, RTWI funds pilot programs that will test new tools, interventions or concepts. These innovations will address key issues impacting return to work outcomes.

Pilots will be evaluated throughout their lifecycle to determine how effective they are. Based on this data, programs will be adapted, discontinued or scaled.

Two pilot programs will begin in 2025

The first 2 pilot programs are already underway and will launch in 2025.

Worker mental health support helpline

The pilot will provide counselling services similar to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). They will be given to workers from small and medium-sized Victorian businesses that do not already have access to these services.

The aim of the program is to improve the wellbeing of workers and prevent mental injuries, including stress and burnout.

Mentally healthy workplaces

The pilot will support small and medium businesses to implement mentally healthy workplace best practice.

This program aims to increase mental health awareness. This includes help to achieve the following.

  • Identify psychosocial risks and hazards within the workplace.
  • Manage identified risks and hazards through analysis and mental health safety action planning.
  • Monitor and control risks and hazards by providing guidance, tools and resources.
