WorkSafe 101 for high schools - program resources
The WorkSafe Academy learning portal includes a set of interactive education resources designed for teachers in secondary schools help to prepare young people to enter the workforce safely.

Purpose
WorkSafe Victoria has launched the WorkSafe Academy learning portal, which includes WorkSafe 101 – for high schools, a set of interactive education resources designed for secondary school teachers teachers in secondary schools to help to prepare young people to enter the workforce safely. The launch follows a successful pilot with select schools in Term 1 and 2, 2022.
The initial suite of OHS resources are designed to complement classroom learning for students between Years 9 and 12.
Resources
WorkSafe have co-designed a number of resources based on feedback and discussions with numerous teachers. Access to resources will be through the WorkSafe Academy portal via the WorkSafe website.
The resources include:
eLearning Modules
Three e-Learning modules covering OHS basics, hazard identification and speaking up.
Introduces learners to what OHS is and their rights and responsibilities as a young worker.
Introduces learners to different hazards and risks they might see at work, the impact they can have on their physical and psychological health and well-being and how these risks are managed.
Shows young workers how to speak up if they see anything they think is unsafe.
Motion graphic
2-minute animation is a trailer for the program covering what OHS is all about and some common risks and hazards faced by young workers in the workplace.
30-second summary videos
Five, 30-second animated videos summarising key topics addressed in the modules:
- rights and responsibilities
- what is a hazard?
- reporting physical hazards
- psychosocial hazards
- speak up
Classroom activities
Set of 3 activities for students to complete in small groups.
- Activity 1: Setting up a workplace with consideration of OHS and profit.
- Activity 2: Identification and management of risks.
- Activity 3: Speaking up when things are unsafe.
Teacher's pack
Provides an overview of the course content and templates for activities. Includes references to extended resources that may be useful to enhance student learning.
A certificate will be available upon completion of the modules, which students can attach to their resume.
How to sign up
Teachers who are interested in WorkSafe 101 – for high schools start by downloading the email template:
Please fill out the excel spreadsheet with your students’ details and email it to worksafeacademy @ worksafe.vic.gov.au with your sign up request. WorkSafe will then enrol you and your students into the WorkSafe 101 – for high schools program.
Students and teachers will receive an individual login ID for WorkSafe Academy, which we will send directly to you.
All users will be prompted to change their passwords upon their first log in to WorkSafe Academy.
